Family Stories

Our family stories are our heritage, and a glimpse of history as seen through the prism of an individual's life story or a family history.

Our first story begins in the early 19th century at Fort Dearborn, located in what is now downtown Chicago. It is the story of the family of Michikan Gishawata, brought to us by Cathy Couch.

I am descended from the Menominee chief Ahkenepoweh and from Chesaugan, a headman of the St. Joseph Band of Potawatomi, through his daughter, Sha Note. Here are some of my family's stories -- Susan
